Unselfish Basketball Association

I usually don’t miss a chance to point out when people are being selfish, ignorant, or generally behaving in a way that I find reprehensible.  It would be wrong to miss the opportunity to mention the unselfish act of 4 NBA Players.

NBA players, while I am sure some do a great deal for charity,  are not known for being unselfish.  I remember Latrell Sprewell bitching that his millions of dollars wouldn’t be enough to feed his family.  Since Latrell tried to choke out a former coach one may question the sanity of mocking him here in a public forum.  Well Latrell, if you have a problem with what I have said, then by all means get in touch with me.  I am not hard to find.  But then again, internet access and computers cost money.  Since you have used up all yours feeding your family, I guess I am safe.

7 years ago Clipper’s owner Donald Sterling, one of the worst human beings walking the planet, refused to pay for prostrate surgery for assistant coach Kim Hughes, who had been diagnosed with prostrate cancer.  The rationale was that if he paid for Hughes’ surgery he would be on the hook for other employees surgeries.  God forbid Sterling, a billionaire by the way, should shell out some coin to keep his employees free of cancer.  A lot of the time cancer can’t be cured, so denying a man the chance to have surgery that could save his life is just plain gross.

Clippers players Elton Brand, Corey Magette, Chris Kamen, and Mario Jaric stepped up, and opened their wallets.  They covered the cost of Hughes’operation, which according to Hughes’ himself, was “not cheap”.

I could spend the rest of my natural life bashing Sterling for this and it still wouldn’t be enough.  Instead I will let the gravity of his denial speak for itself, and will use this space to thank Brand, Magette, Kamen, and Jaric (who is not pictured because all the pictures I could find have him hugging Adriana Lima and it was pissing me off) for setting a good example.  They deserved to be thanked for doing the right thing, and for not self promoting the act in the traditional way famous people do when they give some of their millions to a noble cause.

Elton Brand, Corey Magette, Chris Kamen, and yes even you Mario Jaric, I am sure Kim Hughes has thanked you but on behalf of us here at the FWG Network, thank you for inspiring us with your actions off the court.
