So it’s sometime difficult being married. It means compromise, obligations other than your own, and finding crafty ways to tune into sports. You have to be a sports ninja, especially when it’s a sale at Kohls directly taking on a critical game in NHL playoff game that involves your team.
I have a smartphone and I’ve realized something strange. Twitter is amazingly useful for following sports-it’s like listening to a bunch of your asshole friends talking about the game at the bar, except your sober and there are just voices in your head. It’s more descriptive than trying to watch a gamecast and updated way more often. Next time you’re stuck out give it a shot.
Anyway, I did get away and caught a fair bit of the third period. From what I saw, it looked like a sloppy game from both teams and the refs didn’t make it easier. I’m not trying to pull a homer card, because the bad calls went both ways, but wow-those were some ticy-tac calls. Some legit, but the got lost in the shit storm of lame calls. It’s the playoffs. I understand you have to manage the game, but let the guys play. Seriously-24 freaking penalties.
It was good to see the Flyers showing signs of life. Lots of positives to take out of this: Giroux playing like he can, James Van Riemsdyk playing great quick hockey, Villie Leino, one of the phenoms of last years playoffs, was looking good in his limited time. It wasn’t all positive: Bobrovsky looked bad-flopping and loosing sight of the puck way too often. Boucher was great in relief, but also got some more defensive support. I think Boucher will start in game 3. The Sabres played well but also played without discipline. Both teams did. But that scrum, pot shot hockey favors the Flyers. Early precision passing by the Sabres mostly negated the Flyers’ decent forecheck, but once that precision broke down the Flyers took advantage.
Hopefully after playing a couple of good periods of hockey, showing that they can hang a few goals on Miller, they can go up to Buffalo and take a game or two. It’s down to a best of 5 series with the split and the Flyers play well on the road.
