FARMINGTON, Maine -Nearly two dozen women marched topless through this college town Friday to protest a double-standard that allows men to take off their shirts on a hot summer day. Many men joined the women, taking off their shirts and marching side by side with them. Joining the scrum were gawkers snapping photos.
[Organizers] encouraged other women to take up the cause…they weren’t going to let camera-toting men ruin her day, either.
“Unfortunately, there’s no way to deal with people taking pictures for prurient interest, but I feel the best way to deal with that is to just ignore it,” she said.
Let me get this straight, these women want to protest for equality by showing off two things that only 50% of the population has? Sounds a bit unfair to me. And then this woman is mad that people are “missing the point” and stopping to snap photos? Look, if you take your top off people are going to take pictures, bottom line. You dump out the boobies, and there will be at least 5 men waiting with camera’s. It’s nature’s law, as old as time, as consistent as gravity. You don’t see me hanging my nutties out there for people to stare at at being like, “I’m protesting that men can’t show ball-cleavage” or getting pissed when people stare or take pictures. I’m not up on my high horse saying “yeah these are my balls hanging out, but don’t you dare stare at them, how crude!”
You wanted attention for your cause, you got it. You can’t help that said attention was in the form of men taking pictures for their MySpace pages and “personal collections.” To make an omlet you got to break a few eggs. Consider this collateral damage.
