Kyle Lyddy Looks Back at Day 1

Does it get any better than this? St. Patrick’s Day and the first round of the NCAA tournament. Holy Moly. The excitement grew one game at a time and the rowdiness grew one beer at a time.  There were six games decided by three points or less on the first day. With  upset bid by Morehead State in the afternoon games proved to be the highlight of the day, as they knocked off Louisville; a team who lost to Connecticut in the Big East Championship game. Richmond proved to be the other shocker of the day, beating 5th seeded Vanderbilt. And how about those Zags Gonzaga pulled out a win over St. John’s which eliminated the second Big East team from the tournament. The tension was high in bars and living rooms across America. Computers were being refreshed as businessmen attempted to check on their brackets, some of which were already dismantled prior to the evening games. It will be interesting to now see what cinderella’s can make it through to the Sweet 16 and what powers will be upset. It’s the best time of year for college basketball fans. The drama of the NCAA tournament is unmatched, and something fans across the country crave.
