Dear Mike Adras…

BSky N Arizona N Colorado BasketballDear Mike Adras,

You have caused a bit of commotion for not voting for UCONN as the number one team in the final ESPN/USA Today coaches poll.  You picked Ohio State as your number 1, and Kansas as your number 2.

Someone from UCONN knocked up your daughter didn’t they? Or perhaps you caught Kemba Walker sneaking out of your wife’s window late one night when you came home from practice?

How else could there be any argument that UCONN was the best team at the end of the year.  Not only were they the last team standing in the NCAA tournament, they ran the table in the Big East Tournament.  Thats 11 straight wins against quality competition.  While I agree that Ohio State and Kansas had excellent years, they were not the best teams at the end of the season.  If they were they would be there would be some celebrating, rioting, and parading in Columbus or Lawrence right now.

So if your vote is being cast based on body of work for the whole year, and one team wins its first 25 games while losing the rest and gets knocked out in the first round of the tournament, would they be ranked number one if no other team had managed more than 24 wins?

Were Ohio State and Kansas the most talented teams in 2011?  Sure.  I picked them both to win in my brackets this year.  But it takes more than talent to be the best team in the country.  It takes actually winning games.  Maybe you cast your vote before the tournament, and went on vacation since your Northern Arizona team only managed 19 wins and failed to be selected.

Your bald rationale, if bald was meant both lack of common sense and lack of hair, is even more flawed because you placed UCONN at number 3.  Based on your “body of work for the entire season” argument wouldn’t Duke, San Diego State, and Pittsburgh have rated higher than a Huskie team that lost nine games?

During the season Ohio State and Kansas were both deservedly ranked number one.  At the end of the season the UCONN Huskies deserved to be there, and shame on you for trying to suggest otherwise.

Fortunately for you, this isn’t Vietnam, and there are rules.  Otherwise I would be recommending you have bad things done to you in an uncomfortable place.  Like the back seat of a Volkswagen.

Mr. Adras, how you voted is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent voting were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational vote. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.  I award you no Rogaine, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Sicnerily,

Corey Maloney
